The 16 ANSI colors plus background, text, bold text, selection and cursor. Terminal.app has no setting for cursor text or tab colors, and a profile doesn't switch with the macOS appearance, so pick one flavor.

Turn it on

In Terminal › Settings › Profiles (select it, then click Default)
